The Ethics Lab is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. EIN 42-2016932. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Everything below is a matter of public record or is available on request. If something you need is not here, write to us and we will send it.
Candid
The Ethics Lab holds a Candid Seal of Transparency.
The seal reflects the information an organization has published about itself on Candid, the nonprofit information service formerly known as GuideStar. It is not a rating, an evaluation, or an endorsement of our work by Candid or by anyone else.
How we count
Every figure we publish is defined here, so anyone can check what it does and does not mean. We say "reached" rather than "taught" on purpose: it is the claim we can evidence. Figures are as of September 2026.

Governance
The Ethics Lab is run by the students who do the work, with a board of directors that holds it to a professional standard. Seats we have not filled are named as empty there, because listing a board we do not have would be the opposite of this page.

Funding
The curriculum is free to students and schools. The work is funded by donations, which are processed through our public Givebutter page — every contribution is receipted there.
We have no audited financial statement and no published Form 990 to link to yet. As the organization's filings are completed they are published on our Candid profile, which is the authoritative public record for this EIN. In the meantime, our organizing documents and financial records are available on request.
Student data
Schools sign a data privacy agreement — the SDPC National Data Privacy Agreement plus their state's exhibit — before any student is rostered on the learning platform. A school is verified before it can create classes.
